Why Would I Leave You Now?

There is a light shining behind the door,
There are soft voices in the hall,
Why would I leave you now?

Your eyes, they are starting to open at last,
The memories of the night are fading into the past,
Why would I leave you now?

It is cold outside, but love, there is light,
Take the coat on your left,
Rise up from your rest,
Stretch your arms to the sky,
And laugh with the sunrise.

It has gone,
The dark fight,
It has gone,
The stinging bite,
Of the faces that tormented,
Your soul it relented,
But the night has departed,
Halt fear, the day has started.

I held your hand as you screamed,
I held your hand as they tried,
To smother in the night,
'There is no light!' They lied.

I cried as you wept,
I held you close as life ebbed,
Out of your frail form,
As the day did not dawn.

Fear not,
My child,
Fear not,
My love.
Look up, there you see?
Beyond the memories,
There is life,
There is life,
There is life come from the night.

Never fear,
My child,
Never fear,
My love,
Take my hand and we'll walk,
To the door w
ith the light,

To new life,
To new life,
To new life come from the night.

Fear not what lies ahead,
I did not leave you then to their attack,

And why would I leave you now?
